PTO Sunday Newsletter – Nov 25, 2018

November 25, 2018

Hello Sea Girt Families,

Happy End of Thanksgiving Weekend. Despite the rain and wind, hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends. We are grateful for this wonderful town, our school family, and all that it represents.

At the last PTO meeting it was decided to CANCEL the December 18th 2018 PTO Meeting. Please make a note of this. Should you need to contact any of us feel free in the interim.

We again would like to extend our sincerest thank you and gratitude to ALL the volunteers that helped to make the Sea Girt Artisan and Craft Market a success. Especially the administration, staff, teachers, and Mr. Batista for ensuring it went off without a hitch! In addition, this fund raising event would not be possible without the 8th Grade Students, parents, and ALL the families of the Sea Girt Elementary School that come together to make the market a reality. The PTO Board would also like to extend a “Thank You” to the Committee Chairs who work tirelessly behind the scenes for months prior to the event, up to and through Sunday night to make sure the patrons, vendors, and participants all enjoy the weekend. If you have any outstanding reimbursements please put them in the PTO Box in the Sea Girt School Office with the executed reimbursement form, or provide them to Carey Begley, PTO Treasurer.

Helping Hands

We would like to reintroduce Helping Hands to those of you who know of it and all who may be new. Helping Hands is a service that delivers meals to families in our school who are suffering a hardship, such as a recent death of an immediate family member or a hospitalization. It is meant to take the burden of preparing dinner away from the family cook, so that attention can be focused on the recent hardship.

This service is made possible by volunteers in our school community. The process is simple. Prepare the same meal that you are serving your family that night. Deliver it to the recipient by 5 PM. That is it. It means so much to people who are suffering to know that others are thinking of them.

If you are interested in lending a hand and adding your name to the volunteer list, please let Sue Nolan know via text at 718-637-1162 or email at quinny614@yahoo.com.

SGES Apparel

Please continue to visit us at here on the website. There is an apparel store for all your needs. We will be selling the apparel and some new items at the Santa’s Breakfast event on December 1st. The apparel has been rebranded and continues to be a steady source of revenue this year for the PTO. Keep an eye out for the NEW holiday shirts. Sure to please! For more information visit the shop at https://www.seagirtpto.com/shop/

Lunch Program

The Sea Girt Lunch Program does not happen without the continual help of only a few and sometimes one volunteer. This program is a success for multiple reasons. It continues to support local businesses who provide lunches to Sea Girt Students at a fair price. In addition, the students get a variety of lunches to choose from each week and look forward to the options if they partake in the program. According to the numbers there are many families who benefit from this program.

The challenge is and continues to be, the support and volunteering to keep the program running without having to cancel it or go to an outside vendor, which has many inherent issues. The PTO supports and continues this program based on the support and volunteerism of families. As of recently, the support and volunteerism has been slim and sometimes none. Even volunteering for a month can make a HUGE difference for this program. We cannot continue to rely on the same volunteer or volunteers. If you are a new family to the school and want to learn more about this or be in the school to see how this operates we would welcome volunteers on a month by month basis. If you are an existing family and could see fit to carve out some time for one month to help out it would be greatly appreciated. The commitment can be as little as one hour a day for a month or as many months as you can spare. We are working toward getting volunteers on a monthly basis so as not to wear anyone out. If this sounds like something you may be able to help out with please contact Alice Keefe at hayes.keefe@gmail.com.

Winter Enrichment

The after school Enrichment Program is something that the PTO supports and continues to offer as it helps the students to learn more skills and activities that may not be part of the school day. While some of the enrichments programs have been sold out and hugely successful others have not had the same interest or turnout. We are reaching out to the families at large for ideas or contacts for Spring Enrichment. Due to the weather, schedule, and breaks the next enrichment program will be in the Spring of 2019. Again, please contact any of the PTO Board or Stephanie Flynn stephanie.mccarter@gmail.com with any suggestions, ideas or contact for Spring 2019. In addition if there is interest in taking this program over for the 2019-2020 school year, now would be a great time to work with Stephanie so you can hit the ground running next year. Let us know, we are always looking and supportive of new volunteers and ideas.
